Therapeutic Needs Assessment
About
Trying to find out which type of therapy might be right for your child can be overwhelming. For many parents, wondering whether psychotherapy, CBT, play therapy or another intervention would be most appropriate can be difficult. Our Therapeutic Needs Assessment is a structured assessment used to understand your child’s emotional needs and which therapeutic support is likely to be most beneficial for them. This helps ensure that any intervention is well matched to your child’s individual needs rather than based on a trial-and-error approach.
As part of the assessment, you will be provided detailed written report. This brings together your child’s family and developmental background, relevant information professionals, psychometric measures where appropriate, and clear, practical recommendations to guide next steps. Reports can also be used to support care planning, EHCP processes, or wider professional decision-making where needed.
At Integratis we believe in ongoing patient care and you will be supported in implementing the assessment recommendations - whether this is a referral to a trusted colleague or linking up with the appropriate professionals to make sure your child gets the right support for them.
Who can benefit from a Therapeutic Needs Assessment?
A Therapeutic Needs Assessment can be helpful for children and young people who are experiencing behaviour difficulties, emotional dysregulation, school based issues or early experiences of trauma. This may include children who are from an adopted or Looked After background, those with neurodevelopmental diagnosis such as ASD/ADHD, or where there is uncertainty about what type of support is needed.
Assessments are often requested by parents, schools, or professionals such as social workers as part of planning the right support around a child. A diagnosis is not required for an assessment to be helpful.
Our Approach
Our assessments are thorough and grounded in psychological and developmental understanding. The process includes time to review background information and any previous reports, followed by an initial consultation with parents or guardians to understand the child’s history and current concerns.
This is followed by two assessment sessions with your child and a detailed written report is prepared outlining the outcome for the assessment, and clear recommendations.
A feedback meeting for parents / guardians is then offered to talk through the report, answer questions, and think together about next steps.
