Autism and ADHD Counselling Support
Young people with Autism and/or ADHD may experience anxiety, emotional overwhelm, low self-esteem, school difficulties, friendship challenges or exhaustion from trying to cope in environments that do not meet their needs. These difficulties can sometimes be misunderstood as behavioural problems, when they may reflect sensory overload, unmet needs, masking or the strain of managing everyday demands.
At The Integratis Clinic, we look beyond the presenting symptoms to understand the whole young person: how they experience the world, what may be contributing to their distress and what support will be most helpful.
Autistic and ADHD children and young people may experience anxiety, emotional overwhelm, low mood, school difficulties, friendship challenges or a loss of confidence. These difficulties are sometimes seen as behavioural problems, when they may be signs that a young person is overwhelmed, masking, struggling with sensory demands or trying to cope in an environment that does not meet their needs.
At The Integratis Clinic, we look beyond the presenting symptoms to understand the whole young person. This means considering their relationships, experiences, environment, strengths and individual way of communicating, as well as what may be contributing to their distress.
Our therapists meet each child or young person where they are. Therapy may involve talking, play, drawing, creative materials or other forms of expression, depending on their age and preferences. The aim is not to make a young person appear less autistic or ADHD, but to help them feel better understood, make sense of their experiences and develop ways of managing the difficulties affecting their wellbeing.
We also work collaboratively with parents, recognising that meaningful support often involves understanding what is happening across home, school and the young person’s wider life.
How therapy can help
Our Approach
We begin with a free 15-minute telephone consultation to hear about your concerns and answer any initial questions.
If therapy appears appropriate, we will arrange an initial parent consultation, followed by three assessment sessions with your child or young person. We will then meet with you to share our understanding and agree the therapeutic approach most likely to benefit them.
Where appropriate, regular parent reviews form part of the work. If another form of support or assessment is needed, we will help you consider the next steps.
