Play Therapy

A child-led therapeutic approach that uses play and creativity to help children explore emotions, build resilience and develop confidence.

About

Play Therapy provides children with a safe, consistent therapeutic environment where they can explore their feelings, experiences and relationships through play and creativity. While adults often use words to make sense of difficult experiences, children naturally communicate through play. It can provide a way for them to express thoughts and emotions that they may not yet have the language or confidence to talk about directly.

Within the therapy room, children are offered a carefully selected range of play and creative materials which they can use in their own way and at their own pace. Through a trusting relationship with a trained Play Therapist, children are supported to understand themselves, develop emotional resilience and find new ways of managing challenges.

Who can benefit from this service?

Play Therapy may benefit children who are experiencing anxiety and worries, low mood, bereavement, trauma, family changes, difficulties managing emotions, or changes in their behaviour at home or school. It can also support children with neurodiversity-related challenges, helping them to explore their experiences and strengthen their emotional understanding.

At Integratis, Play Therapy is offered to children aged six and above when it has been considered that their developmental stage and therapeutic needs are well suited to this approach.

Our Approach

At Integratis, our Play Therapy approach is child-led and relationship-based. The therapist follows the child’s lead with warmth, curiosity and acceptance, allowing the child to explore what feels important to them without pressure or expectation.

Early sessions focus on developing a sense of safety and trust within the therapeutic relationship. Over time, many children experience the therapy room as a place where they feel listened to, understood and accepted.

We recognise that parents and carers are an important part of a child’s support network. Alongside regular therapeutic reviews, we work collaboratively with families to share themes and progress, while maintaining the child’s privacy and the trust that develops within therapy.
